Setting up a CNAME record for each of the domain names or subdomains that you've got within a hosting account allows you to point it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all of its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the domain name it is being pointed to. In this light, you simply can't set up a CNAME record to forward your domain to a third-party provider and keep a functional email service with the first hosting company. Also, it is important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number as it is regularly confused with the A record of the domain being redirected. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to direct a domain that you own through one provider to the servers of another company in case you have set up an Internet site with the latter. By doing this, the Internet site will appear under your own domain, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party company.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

Creating a CNAME record using our shared hosting is extremely easy. Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in just a few easy steps. You'll find a video tutorial inside the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with various possibilities - if you build a company website on our end, as an illustration, the workers can use their emails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a website through a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain address, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it takes no more than a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed through our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will discover a section dedicated to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted in the account. To create a CNAME record, you'll only have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), input where the latter will be pointed to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within a couple of hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally easy and takes a click. In the event you experience any issues, you can go through our detailed help article, see the short video on the subject that we have added in the CP, or you can just contact us for assistance.
